Day 5/365: Three Ways to Rescue Yourself from a Fall – #Handstand365 Handstand Workouts

Hi! This Juan from handstand365.com. Welcome to my apartment. Today is day 5 of 365, and as promised, we’re going to work on how to rescue ourselves when we fall from a handstand. One of the reasons that people quit when they are working on a handstands is that they fall and they don’t like the way they fell and so they stop. Or even they are just afraid of falling for the first time, not realizing that falls from a handstand are usually not so bad. But the best thing to do is to protect yourself from the fall anyway. Sometimes you can prevent the fall and sometimes it’s not even worth correcting the fall and kind of just rolling out of it.

So we’re going to show how to do all those three things in just really simple steps. The tough part about showing how we are going to do this is, since I don’t know how to do a handstand, the only way show you what I am going to do is by putting myself in a position as if I were in a hand stand. So I am going to put myself in the position and then go.

The first way to rescue yourselves, the basically what you just do is you step forward with one hand and then just fall to the side. That’s it.

  1. If I am in the handstand, My hands are down, my head is above my hands. And, I feel like I am about to fall backwards.
  2. I could step one hand forward and …
  3. Then fall to the side.

Day 4/365: Three Wall Handstand Positions – #Handstand365 Handstand Workouts

Hi, this is Juan from Handstand365.com. Welcome to my apartment. Today is Day 4 of 365. We are going to be working on stances today, so I’m not going to jump right into it.

You might have noticed that the past few days I have used two different stances, in other words different position with my legs. They seem to be just the same thing. Maybe one time my leg were straight up the other had my legs were bent, but they actually have, especially for us beginners, a very distinct advantages, one versus the other.

Day 3 of 365: Up-And-Down Plank – #Handstand365 Handstand Workouts

Hi, this is Juan from Handstand365.com. Welcome to my apartment. Today’s Day 3 of 365. Do this handstand with me!

OK. So, that was really tough for me but today for me was Day 3, and you’ll notice that I was able to stay up the whole time. I wasn’t really trying too hard to balance myself: I was using the wall for a lot of that balance, but it was really tough. But I’ve made obvious progress, so I’m really proud of myself. Hopefully you were able to do the same thing. If not, keep trying at it. I guarantee you one of these days very, very soon you’ll be able to stay up there for a whole minute.

One thing I want to point out before we even get started with today’s lesson: you may have noticed that the last three days I used very slightly different stances against the wall. Tomorrow what we’re going to talk about is those different stances, just three different stances, and also, the day after that, how to rescue yourself if you fall from one of those stances.

But today, as I promised you, we’re going to do a modified plank.

Day 2 of 365: Plank – #Handstand365 Handstand Workouts

Hi this is Juan from HandStand365.com. Welcome to my apartment. This is day 2 of 365. Let’s do a 60 second wall handstand together.

Alright, that was tough. I timed myself for a minute. Hopefully if you all are trying, you could do a minute too. If not, look, 30 seconds is great. I was finding that minute really tough. You saw that midway through, I had to take a break. But if you got through the whole thing, I am proud of you. It’s a great job. Maybe tomorrow you can get to 65 seconds.

Today I want to actually get to an exercise that will help us to get really good on handstands. I have been doing a lot of research on what’s good, what a lot of the people who do handstands frequently suggest. There are a lot of exercises that they do. Some of them are very odd exercises, some of them are really common exercises. I have seen modified planks, I have seen handstand, leg lifts of all sorts, and I want to start off today with an oldie but goodie, the plank. Tomorrow, I am going to do a little modification of the plank so that we can get a nice little work out on it. Alright?

But for today we are just going to do our regular plank. Keep in tune for tomorrow so that we can get a nice little workout with the modification of it. You can see right now I am using my old Yoga pad. You don’t need a Yoga pad for this. You can use a carpet or a bare floor. A bare floor is not really that hard. Continue reading

Day 1 of 365: Wall Stand – #Handstand365 Handstand Workouts

Hi! This is Juan from Handstand365.com. First off I want to say sorry for the poor video quality. So like you I’ve always wanted to be able to do a handstand, and I was thinking about making a website about my journey on how to do that, how I got good at it, etc. Then I thought, “well why not make a website where you actually see me going through the journey?” So, instead of figuring it out and then saying “hey this is what you can do, let me put some ads up and maybe make some money off of it”, I said, “you know what? Let me take you on my journey, make a fool of myself on YouTube and have fun with it”. So I decided that is what I am going to do.

I do not know how to do a hand stand at all. And you are watching this video, you are going to this site and saying, “hey this guy doesn’t know how to do a handstand. Why am I learning from him?” Well, I have been a personal trainer at certain points of my life. I am high school teacher. I hope that I can do a good job at conveying all the things that I do. I hope to teach you some really good exercises along the way that will help you get to the point where you can do a good handstand. The exercises that I am going to show you are the exercises I am going to be doing because, right now I can’t do a handstand, so I would not be showing you an exercise that was useless.

I want you to come along on this journey with me. I think it would be fun. I think it will be cool to put myself out there and make a little bit of a fool of myself., not in a way that people treat themselves as crash test dummies and hope they get 10 million views. More like, a fun thing. This is something that almost nobody knows how do. I wanted learn to be able to do crazy martial arts, and so that’s what I do. I always learned to do crazy amounts of math so I got my masters in math. And, the handstand is sort of like a physical thing that I always wanted to do, sort of like a super hero type thing. It’s something that I think would be fun if you try it out.
